Reston - November 9, 2005 - On a night in which
Democrats rolled to smashing victories in Northern Virginia, 28-year-old
Libertarian Donny Ferguson, who just moved to Reston in January,
still rolled up an impressive 21 percent of the vote against 13-term
incumbent Democrat Ken Plum.
"I'm thrilled with this showing," said Ferguson. "I
want to thank all the volunteers who worked long hours going door-to-door,
putting up signs and working the polls."
"Considering the massive vote totals compiled by Democrats
in every neighboring district, this was a very impressive campaign,"
said Ferguson. "People were clearly concerned about Ken Plum's
proposals for county income taxes, higher gas taxes and his Dulles
toll hike and made it known they're not happy with their representation.
This should have been a 91 percent to 9 percent night for him."
"I remember people in Richmond telling me an underfunded 28-year-old
Libertarian who just moved in wouldn't even pull double-digits against
a 26-year incumbent in one of the state's most Democratic districts,"
said Ferguson, "Tonight we proved them wrong. The Libertarian
Party is strong and growing."
